PGT Door Installation: The Port St. Lucie Owner’s Guide

PGT door installation in Port St. Lucie typically runs between $850 and $2,400 installed, depending on the door type and whether you’re replacing a single panel or a full frame. We stock PGT-compatible hardware and panels on our trucks, and most single-door installs are completed in one visit. The usual discovery is quiet: a door that scrapes the frame at sunrise, a latch that no longer lines up, or a seal that lets the afternoon humidity bleed through the threshold.

If you’ve owned a PGT product for ten or more years in St. Lucie County, you’ve likely seen how salt air and hurricane-season moisture work on door hardware. Rollers bind, weatherstripping compresses flat, and the interlocking rails on impact-rated doors start to wear. The door itself is often sound. The installation around it is not. That’s where we start: not by selling a new door, but by measuring what you have and telling you honestly whether it’s worth keeping.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

We install and service the full PGT door line as an independent provider, not as a factory representative. That covers the WinGuard impact-rated series, the Premier and SpectraGuard lines, and the older PGT Classic models still common in Tradition, Torino, and St. Lucie West. The single most important step is identifying what you actually have before ordering parts. PGT etches a glass code into the corner of most door panels: a series of letters and numbers that identifies the model, glass type, and manufacturing date. If that code has faded, the hinge stamp or the lock faceplate usually carries a production mark.

One compatibility gotcha we see often: WinGuard doors built before 2012 use a narrower interlock profile than current production. New PGT replacement panels will not seat correctly in an older frame without a shim-and-seal adjustment. That matters on the Treasure Coast, where an out-of-true interlock on an impact door is a water intrusion point during summer squalls. When the OEM part is discontinued or on a 12-week backorder, we quote quality aftermarket equivalents side by side on paper. You see the part number, the source, and the price before we order anything. No surprises.

Signs Your PGT Door Installation Is Failing

  • Drag marks or scraping at the threshold. This usually means the door slab has settled, or the rollers on a sliding door have flattened. On hinged doors, it’s often a hinge screw backing out of a stripped hole. Either way, the door is telling you the load path has shifted.
  • Visible daylight around the door edges. Compression weatherstripping on PGT doors loses its shape after years of Florida sun and humidity. Once you can see light, the door is no longer sealing against rain, insects, or your air conditioning.
  • A latch that needs a shove or a slam to engage. This is almost never the latch itself. It’s the strike plate alignment, which shifts as the frame settles. Forcing the door wears the latch mechanism and eventually damages the strike plate screws.
  • Condensation inside the door glass. If your PGT insulated glass unit is fogged, the seal has failed and the gas fill is gone. The door still functions, but you’ve lost the thermal and acoustic performance you paid for. On impact-rated glass, a failed seal also weakens the laminate bond over time.
  • A sliding door that jumps the track or sticks mid-run. The rollers PGT uses are tuned to the door weight. Aftermarket or worn rollers change the track geometry, and a door that jumps is a genuine safety risk, especially for children or pets in the house.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A single hinged PGT door replacement in Port St. Lucie most often lands between $850 and $1,600 installed. Sliding doors run higher, usually $1,400 to $2,400, because the track system, rollers, and interlock all get evaluated and often replaced at once. The spread exists for reasons you can check: door size, whether the frame needs rebuilding, and whether you’re buying OEM PGT parts or a quality aftermarket alternative.

Every quote includes the door or hardware, full installation labor, old material haul-off, and a written line-item breakdown. No change orders unless you ask for something different mid-job. The work is covered by our Done Right Promise, and we register both warranty layers in writing before the truck leaves your driveway. If PGT offers a manufacturer warranty on the new panel, we document the terms and give you the paperwork with the serial number already recorded.

DIY or Call Us?

A homeowner with a screwdriver can adjust strike plate alignment, replace a screw with a longer one, or oil a squeaking hinge. Those are the jobs we’ll tell you how to do over the phone. What we won’t do is hand you a set of instructions for pulling a PGT impact door off its hinges. Those panels weigh over 200 pounds. A dropped door can crush a foot, break a wrist, or worse. Same goes for sliding doors: the glass, the rollers, and the track all carry tension and weight that require two trained people and the right lift equipment.

If you’re uncertain, call (772) 362-3326. Dale Kessler has spent the better part of two decades fitting and glazing doors across St. Lucie County, and we’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a Saturday morning fix or a truck-roll job. Measure twice, order once – everything after that is just following through.
