• Drag marks or scraping at the threshold. This usually means the door slab has settled, or the rollers on a sliding door have flattened. On hinged doors, it’s often a hinge screw backing out of a stripped hole. Either way, the door is telling you the load path has shifted.
• Visible daylight around the door edges. Compression weatherstripping on PGT doors loses its shape after years of Florida sun and humidity. Once you can see light, the door is no longer sealing against rain, insects, or your air conditioning.
• A latch that needs a shove or a slam to engage. This is almost never the latch itself. It’s the strike plate alignment, which shifts as the frame settles. Forcing the door wears the latch mechanism and eventually damages the strike plate screws.
• Condensation inside the door glass. If your PGT insulated glass unit is fogged, the seal has failed and the gas fill is gone. The door still functions, but you’ve lost the thermal and acoustic performance you paid for. On impact-rated glass, a failed seal also weakens the laminate bond over time.
• A sliding door that jumps the track or sticks mid-run. The rollers PGT uses are tuned to the door weight. Aftermarket or worn rollers change the track geometry, and a door that jumps is a genuine safety risk, especially for children or pets in the house.
