Signs Your Andersen Door Installation Is Failing
- Door drags or feels heavy when you slide it. Roller bearings have flattened or corroded. On Andersen gliding doors, the nylon wheel wears down over time, and the door starts riding on the metal housing, which scores the track.
- You have to lift the door to latch it. The hinge adjustment has slipped or the door slab has settled. On hinged Andersen doors, this usually points to worn hinge bushings, and continuing to force it will oval out the screw holes.
- Air and insects come in around the edges. Weatherstripping has compressed or the door is out of square. In Port St. Lucie, we see this most in the spring when no-see-ums are at their worst and homeowners notice the gap for the first time.
- Lock binds or the deadbolt won’t turn without force. The multipoint lock gearbox has stripped a tooth or the door has shifted enough to misalign the hook bolts with the keepers.

Where I’d stop is at removing the door slab. A Frenchwood gliding panel runs 80 to 140 pounds depending on the glass package, and if the roller adjusters are seized, you’ll be fighting the panel while it’s out of the track. That’s how backs get thrown and glass gets broken. Hinged door multipoint locks are also tighter than they look; the gearbox sits inside routed pockets, and forcing a misaligned assembly can bend the keepers inside the frame.
