CWS Impact Garage Doors: The Port St. Lucie Owner’s Guide

We stock and install CWS-compatible impact garage doors throughout Port St. Lucie, with most complete door replacements running between $2,800 and $6,500 installed depending on size, finish, and hardware. If your door is still structurally sound, we can usually replace the failed component, spring, roller, or weather seal the same day we come out, with most repair visits landing between $180 and $450. The way most Port St. Lucie homeowners find us is by hearing a noise in the middle of the night: a spring letting go sounds like a gunshot, and after a storm, the bottom panel is often bowed from water intrusion that has been quietly eating the foam core for two or three summers.

We are an independent service provider, not affiliated with CWS. What that means for you is we tell you the truth about what is worth fixing and what is worth replacing, even when the truth is that the aftermarket part is the better choice. Dale Kessler grew up in the Tradition area of Port St. Lucie, so he knows what salt air and hurricane season do to a door that was not sealed right the first time.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS impact garage doors are built around a few distinct series, and the parts are not as interchangeable as the marketing brochures suggest. The most common lines we service in Port St. Lucie are the CWS WindCode series, the CWS Legacy series, and the older CWS 3000 series that was popular in the early 2000s. Each series uses a different track radius, a different spring stack, and different panel thicknesses. A spring tuned for a WindCode door will not balance a Legacy door, even if both are 16 feet wide. That is the kind of mistake that turns a $250 repair into a bent track and a broken opener.

To identify what you have, look for the sticker on the inside of the top section near the hinge line. It will list the model, the serial, and the wind load rating. If the sticker is gone, which happens often in Florida garages after a decade of humidity, measure the panel thickness. The 3000 series runs 1.5 inches; the Legacy runs 2 inches; the WindCode runs 2.25 inches. When it comes to OEM versus aftermarket, we lean OEM for springs and tracks because the metallurgy and gauge matter, and we lean aftermarket for rollers, hinges, and weather seal because the aftermarket options often outperform CWS’s older part designs at a lower price. We will show you both options on paper before we order anything.

Signs Your CWS Impact Garage Doors Is Failing

  • The door fires out of balance when you release the opener. This means a spring has lost tension or broken a coil. The spring is doing most of the lifting; when it fails, the opener is suddenly trying to move a door that weighs several hundred pounds, and the motor will burn out next if you keep using it.
  • The bottom panel is soft, swollen, or visibly bowed inward. This is water intrusion into the foam core. In Port St. Lucie’s wet season, a failed bottom seal lets standing water sit against the panel after every afternoon storm, and that water wicks up the core and delaminates the skin. It cannot be dried out.
  • The door shudders or binds at the halfway point. This is almost always a track alignment problem or a worn cable drum. CWS doors have a tighter track radius than most residential doors, so a slightly spread track will cause the door to bind every single time.
  • You hear grinding when the door moves. Grinding means the rollers have flat-spotted or the steel bearing races are shot. Running a CWS door on worn rollers will chew up the track, and track replacement costs more than the rollers do by a factor of ten.
  • The door slams harder on one side than the other. This indicates a broken cable or an unbalanced spring. A CWS impact door that closes unevenly will eventually bend the bottom fixture, and at that point, the panel itself usually needs to be replaced, not just re-hung.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Port St. Lucie, a complete CWS impact garage door replacement installed runs between $2,800 and $6,500. The range comes down to panel thickness, insulation grade, window inserts if you want them, and whether your existing track and opener are compatible or need to be upgraded to handle the new door’s weight. A bare 16×7 WindCode door without glass and reusing an existing opener will land near the low end. A 18×8 Legacy with insulated glass inserts and a new side-mount opener will hit the top end and possibly a little beyond.

Every quote we write is parts and labor separated on paper, so you see exactly what the door costs and exactly what the install costs. No change orders, no surprises on the bill. We register both warranty layers before the truck leaves the driveway, and the work is covered by our Done Right Promise. If it is not done right, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

Let me be direct about this: do not touch the springs. A CWS impact door spring is under enough tension to take off a finger or break a wrist if it slips. That is not a warning, it is a fact. Even experienced handymen in Port St. Lucie will tell you the same thing. We have been called out to fix more DIY spring attempts than we have to replace parts that failed on their own.

What you can safely check yourself is the weather seal, the rollers, the hinges, and the photo-eye alignment. The seal pulls out of the retainer and pushes back in. Rollers and hinges are bolt-off, bolt-on work if the spring is intact and the door is braced. But if the door will not lift, or a spring is visibly broken, or the door is off the track, leave it alone and call us at (772) 362-3326. We will be there when we say, and we will tell you what it costs before we do anything.
